Q and A with Nicole Turner of The Beauty Lounge
By Jason Conerly
Nicole Turner is a stylist and department manager of The Beauty Lounge. The Beauty Lounge is hosting a grand opening from 4 to 8 p.m. July 14, which will be open to the public, at 2325 Pointe Parkway, Suite 110, Carmel.
Q: What is your background?
“I live in Indianapolis. I’m a New York native. I grew up on Long Island, and I am the oldest of three. I spend a lot of my time with my friends and family. I generally try to stay pretty positive and try to lift others up. I have an English bulldog that I completely adore.”
What made you become a hairstylist?
“It was always a passion of mine. My mom did hair when I was young, and I watched her. My first job was in the hair industry as an assistant to a master stylist when I was 15.”
Does the fact that you grew up in New York City add something special to your work?
“I definitely try to bring a little bit of home with me to everything that I do, the passion that I had growing up. A little part of me goes to the work that I do. I definitely have the New York State of mind doing things as fast as possible, minding my clients’ time. I consult with them about what they want, and I try to deliver to the best of my ability.”
What is unique about what you offer clients?
“My accent. I walk my dog, I drink coffee, (and) I’m from New York. It takes awhile for me to open up, (and) I try to give me clients a few minutes to relax. My deliverance. I try to be exact with they want. I am particular with my things. I’m particular with my color placement. I have a reason behind everything that I do, and that’s what I love about this industry. I get to display my passion in my work and get to give this to my clients. I make sure that every client gets my full attention.”
What do clients come to you for?
“Usually, a majority of my clients come to me for color, and that is what I am the most passionate about. I love the chemistry behind it. Color is a science. To the average person, it’s blonde or brunette. To us, it’s level one through 10, and then there’s a wide range of developers. No two of my clients have the same formula.”
Why should someone trust you with his or her hair?
“If you know how to express what you want, I’ll give you what you want. If I don’t know how to get you what you want, I’ll be honest with you. I’m a trustworthy person.”
How do you like your coffee?
“Light and sweet. So, in New York that usually means milk and sugar. I’m simple.”
