“City Councilor Ron Carter said he has no problem with the city paying….Carter has no problem with the public paying for anything ….our tax dollars are his and Jimmy’s own private mad money accounts.

Interesting that Diamond Jim wants to spend $50K on just designing the plaza (wasn’t that already done once?) when he was so critical in his 1996 Contract on Carmel, where the previous mayor had spent +/- $126K on the complete gazebo – Jim classified that as “extravagant spending”

Terrible idea all around. The plaza is not big enough to handle major events. I can’t imagine the residents would enjoy having the chaos outside their windows and porches either (not to mention the pool they have there). Preserve the square’s quiet atmosphere.

Terrible idea, the courtyard is already a beautiful and peaceful area where the public and private residents can get away from the crazy crowds at the monon and main street. I agree with Mary, the courtyard is too small and can’t handle major events, the pool takes up half on the area. Sophia square just converted a lot of the main level commercial spaces into apartments….and the noise would make it impossible for people to live there. I currently live at sophia square, facing the courtyard and i would personally move because of the noise. I couldn’t standing living on first st, main st, or the monon because of restaurant noise. I hope and pray the council makes the right decision!
