Nickel Plate Arts offering paid commissions worth $4,800

Nickel Plate Arts, an umbrella organization that promotes art classes and cultural experiences in six communities along the historic Nickel Plate rail line in Hamilton and Tipton counties, is offering 16 paid art commissions worth a total of $4,800.

Sixteen artists will be chosen to paint nine-foot market umbrellas that will be displayed in Nickel Plate Arts communities from Fishers to Tipton, Indiana.  These hand-painted market umbrellas will help visitors find, make and explore art along the Nickel Plate Arts Trail during Nickel Plate Arts weekend June 1-3, 2012.  Umbrellas will remain on display throughout the summer.

Artists must be over the age of 15 and an Indiana resident or student to apply.  Preference will be given to artists who live or work in Hamilton County.  Nickel Plate Arts brand will be incorporated into the design.  Artists can apply by submitting a brief artist bio along with two (2) digital images of their artwork and a rough sketch of their proposed umbrellas design to phunkin@nickelplatearts.org.  Applicants may also mail entries to: Paige F. Hunkin, Nickel Plate Arts, 37 E. Main Street, Carmel, IN  46032.   Deadline to submit proposed design is Friday, March 2, 2012.  Please visit www.nickelplateartstrail.org for more information.
