We can't fit every letter to the editor into the paper. Good thing we have a Web site. This page contains everything we have worth reading that  isn't found in the latest issue of Current.

      Editor,

Hard to believe that there are so many people in Carmel without a sense of humor. Danielle Wilson is one of the funniest writers right now, and I look forward to reading her! Tell her to keep up the good work.

      Editor,

I would like to respond to the harsh criticism of Danielle Wilson's column voiced by a Carmel resident in the January 5th edition of Current in Carmel.  I am a pharmacist; however, I used to write a column just like hers.  I can't speak for Ms. Wilson, but my column was meant for pure entertainment.  I'm as sentimental as they come, but if I would have written about how much I loved my family week after week,  my column would more likely have been used to potty train puppies than read.

I pride myself on being able to make people laugh, even when times are tough.  I find that most situations are more palatable if we can laugh a little.  Laughter truly is the best medicine!  It helps to keep things in perspective.  Laughter even provides many health benefits, such as activating part of the brain to produce endorphins (which make you feel good) and has been shown to promote the healthy function of blood vessels.  The list goes on.

Raising children is one of the most rewarding blessings we have as parents, but darn if it doesn't provide a bountiful supply of material to write about!  As a writer, I found it therapeutic to sit down after a stressful day and write about it.  Finding the humor in a stressful day is the best stress-reliever.  As a reader of Ms. Wilson's column, I find it therapeutic to know I'm not alone. It's fun to laugh along with her.  I'm certain many readers can relate to her life, in a humorous way.

The bottom line is that Ms. Wilson's column is to be enjoyed for the entertainment is provides. It is not an advice column nor is it a column on how to raise your children.  It is a humor column.  Do you suppose anyone would have watched Archie Bunker week after week if he would have sat in his chair, with a twinkle in his eye, and told his wife, daughter and son-in-law how much he treasured them?

Danielle, keep on writing!  And for everyone else, let laughter be your prescription for a happy and healthy 2010!

       - Rachel Burke, Carmel
