Jameson Camp to hold fundraising breakfast in Carmel
Jameson Camp is hosting a free fundraising breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. May 5 at 502 East Event Center, 502 East Carmel Drive. The event is for anyone interested in learning more about Jameson Camp and how to help disadvantaged, low-income children attend the camp.
WTHR anchor Anne Marie Tiernon will emcee the event. Other speakers include Joanna Shane and Ethan Moore, who will share their experiences as teens in the James Camp Youth Leadership Program.
“For over 85 years, Jameson Camp has enriched the lives of Indiana youth, who range in age from 7 to 17 years old, by helping them discover their strengths while attending residential summer camp,” said Dan Shepley, Jameson Camp executive director. “At camp, children can experience new adventures, make new friends and discover talents they didn’t even know they have while developing self-respect and confidence.”
Jameson Camp specializes in serving children who face minor social, emotional and behavioral challenges such as autism and attention deficit disorders. Jameson Camp is also the only camp in Indiana that provides a special session of camp for children impacted by HIV/AIDS.
“Our campers often face difficult home lives and emotional challenges,” Shepley said. “When they come to Jameson, they’re immersed in a welcoming, supportive and fun environment that reinforces positive values, attitudes and behaviors.”
Last year at the May breakfast, Jameson Camp raised enough money to sponsor 60 low-income children to attend camp and 15 teenagers to participate year-round in the Youth Leadership activities for an entire year. This year, Jameson Camp hopes to raise $105,000 or enough to sponsor nearly half of all the underserved youth who will attend summer camp this year.
