Hi, Jeff. What a pleasant, surprise to see your article about our organization featured in the May 7, 2013 issue of the Current. Creating an exhibit is truly a team effort that requires months of research and planning. However, I want to correct the commonly held misperception that our archive and special collections inventory came solely from Michael
Feinstein and Terrence Flannery. On the contrary, since its inception in
2007, the Feinstein Initiative has acquired over 100 collections from donors
all over the country including noted jazz author and critic Will Friedwald,
Andrews Sisters memorabilia collector Robert Boyer, and the families of Gus
Kahn, Hy Zaret, Rudy Vallée, Meredith Willson and Jimmy Van Heusen. While
Michael has donated, and continues to donate, items from his personal collection,
the majority still resides in his Los Angeles home. Our long-term goals
include a free-standing facility to house all of Michael’s personal collection
and those from other donors with plenty of space for public engagement.
