It depends on the situation. Publicly, one should never be afraid to tell the truth. One should not go out of the way to invite public ridicule for something personal. In the above historical reference, Sumner was perfectly within his rights to say what he said and Butler should have been sentenced for 5-10 yrs in the Federal pen.
In personal discussions of politics you have to know your friend. I have some friends I can inquire whether their mother dropped them on their head when they were a baby to explain their position with a laugh and others I can barely mention the name or topic of a person or issue they don’t like before they will leave the room. It all depends. I think people should lighten up and remember opinions are like …. elbows, everybody has one.

As I understand it, the city of carmel is in much deeper debt than we are being told. I strongly feel that our mayor isn’t painting an accurate picture and seems to have what the city ‘needs’ vs. what our mayor ‘wants’, backwards. I am all in favor of improvement and continued development for the city of Carmel, however, I am glad to hear that the city council will now have a say.

I would like to add that a $5.5 million oversight is small compared to the 40 million over budget on the construction for The Center for the Performing Arts.

“The perceived cash flow issues at the CRC were caused by the commission taking on an unexpected $5.5 million payment to The Center for the Performing Arts to make up for a budget shortfall.
“The redevelopment commission, at the request of the council, made up the shortfall at The Center, which we didn’t expect,” Brainard said. “Only because of that is there some concern about cash flow for the rest of the year. Going forward, there’s going to be a very detailed fiscal plan for both the CRC and The Center, so there should be no issue with cash flow.”

Right on! Thank you.You are too kind in your criticism, but in Carmel we’ll take whatever truth we can get. It’s too bad that we have learned the hard way that “fact” coming from The Mayor can be assumed to be false until it’s proven to be true. Should the “fact” prove to be UNtrue, well, those “facts” seem to all come from staff-members. Thank you for being the means by which we often can tell the truth from the fiction

As I read your negative column about Danielle Wilson to be swapped, I want to say, ” Are you out of your cotton picking mind?” She is a mom with 3 crazy kids and I, and many other people, enjoy reading her columns every week. It goes to show you that all moms have crazy days and all she wants to do is let off a little steam here and there. Don’t be so negative. If you don’t like her column, don’t read it.

Yeah, and what about all those darn hotels and restaurant owners who happily made money from the runners and their families? Oh, and don’t forget that Carmel also got nationwide (and you could even say worldwide) exposure for hosting this event. Geez dude, lighten up. I was for a few hours one Saturday out of your life!
