Chocolate Sunday to benefit Alzheimer’s Association
By Amanda Foust
A delicious charity event is happening at the 24th annual Chocolate Sunday. The Alzheimer’s Association is hosting an elegant Gourmet Champagne Brunch and Chocolate Extravaganza on Nov. 15 at the Ritz Charles in Carmel.
“All proceeds raised at the event benefit the Alzheimer’s Association in our care, support, and research efforts and directly affect the lives of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and their care partners in Indiana,” said Daniel Pearson, Alzheimer’s Association’s communications specialist.
Chocolate Sunday has raised an average of more than $110,000 annually over the past 10 years. Organizers hope to raise more than $130,000 this year.
What began as a brunch followed by delectable desserts has now become much more.
“We’ve since expanded to include chocolate auction tables that feature fun desserts like chocolate covered strawberries from our Chocolate Sponsor, Marquette Manor,” said Denise Fosnaugh, associate director of relationship events and intermediate giving at the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter.
Other auction items include a weekend test drive from Dreyer Reinbold BMW, a behind-the-scenes tour at the St. Louis Zoo, and a private tour and tasting at Triton Brewery in addition to many gift baskets and experience packages.
The mission of the Alzheimer’s Association is to conduct advanced research to ultimately eliminate the disease. More than 110,000 people have been diagnosed in the state of Indiana, and this event will bring together more than 400 individuals who can make a difference in their lives.
“Some describe Alzheimer’s as a disease that takes a loved one away from you twice; first in mind and later in body,” Fosnaugh said.
A VIP reception will begin at 10:30 a.m. that will feature the latest in research from Dr. Richard Mohls, Dr. Brandy Matthews, Dr. Robert Russell and Dr. Mary Guerriero Austrom. Silent auctions, hors d’oeuvres and cocktails will begin at noon.
