Carmel mayor to present State of the City on Oct. 11
Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard has been busy in the beginning of his sixth, four-year term in office.
He’ll talk all about his recent accomplishments and future goals at the Carmel State of the City Address at OneZone’s October luncheon at the Ritz Charles.
He even has a surprise announcement he can’t reveal just yet.
“We’re going to have a fun announcement for the City Center area,” he said. “I’m going to talk a lot about Midtown and investments and everything that’s been going on the past year.”
Dozens of new roundabouts are in the works, and there are hundreds of millions of dollars in new development in the City Center, Midtown and Carmel Arts & Design District areas. Carmel will be transitioning into a “second-class” city and eliminating its clerk-treasurer position for mayor-appointed city controller position. Dozens of storm water improvement projects are in the works. He’s ordered a study to make Range Line Road more pedestrian-friendly and transform the Monon Trail into a wider boulevard to accommodate increased ridership. And that’s just since January.
But that’s not all Brainard has planned. He hopes to begin on a roundabout interchange at 96th Street and Keystone Parkway and move forward with a new, mixed-use development at the PNC Bank parking lot in the arts district. He’s also hoping to annex Home Place into Carmel and continue to attract corporate headquarters and well-known local restaurants to Carmel.
