What happened: Public Hearing, Hunter’s Creek streetlights
What it means: Resident Don Sentir requested the council reject this ordinance. “There’s no support for it,” he said. At its Jan. 14 meeting, the Utilities, Transportation and Public Safety Committee discussed this ordinance which appropriated funds for Hunter’s Creek streetlights to be paid by residents. The committee advised the council to reject this ordinance.
What’s next: Every council member present opposed the ordinance. There will be no appropriation of funds for streetlights in Hunter’s Creek.
What happened: Elimination of court costs imposed to tickets
What it means: Carmel’s city judge, the Honorable Brian Poindexter, addressed the council to explain the technical correction to this ordinance. The amendment officially permits the city court to not impose court costs on parking and false alarm tickets. Without this amendment, processing tickets has been complicated.
“A parking ticket here,” Poindexter explained, “is sometimes more difficult to resolve than some of the armed robbery cases I tried in Marion County decades ago.”
What’s next: The ordinance regarding the Violations Bureau and Clerk has been amended. The council adopted the amendment in a 6 to 0 vote.
What happened: Nomination to Carmel Fire Dept. Merit Board
What it means: Council member Ron Carter nominated Don Stouder for the two-year term. “Don is a long-serving member of the board,” Carter said. “He’s done a very good job.” His credentials include experience as a fire chief in New Jersey. Carter stated that New Jersey officials are “extremely complimentary” about Stouder.
