The Carmel Police Dept. and the Carmel Fire Dept. helped save a 12-year-old boy from drowning in a retention bond behind the Meijer Store on West Carmel Drive.

Firefighters responded to the scene around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 25. Tim Griffin, public information officer for CFD, said that police pulled the boy out and CFD was there and assisted. The minor was pulseless at the scene and was transported to St.Vincent in Carmel. First responders performed CPR and while en route to the hospital and the boy’s pulse came back, Griffin said. The boy was then sent to St. Vincent where he was stabilized and then transferred to Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital.

Griffin said he’s limited in some information he can give out — such as the child’s name — since the incident involves a minor but he said the response time was very quick.

“We are fortunate that we had a quick response time,” he said.
